The deeper meaning of the birth of Jesus

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.”

‭‭John‬ ‭1‬:‭1‬-‭4‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Everything started with God and from God and out of God. He is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the End, the First and the Last. (Revelation 22:13) Before God became Jesus, the Man on earth, He was. God was and is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8). Therefore in the beginning, God was Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - a triune God - One, yet three. In the beginning Jesus the Son co-create the earth alongside God the Father and God the Holy Spirit.

Then He became a Man to put His plan of salvation in action and He became the Man Jesus. The Man Jesus is the Word. He is God's Word in the flesh - God's Word fulfilled. All things were made through Him and without Him nothing was made. All life comes from God. Without God there would have been no life. And God's life is the light of men. God's life in us enlighten our understanding so that we can understand God and His Word and receive revelation and grow in the knowledge of God (Ephesians 1:18).

Just like in the beginning when it was totally dark and God said: Light be! Jesus brought the light of God back to men. In the beginning there was total darkness and the light of God overpowered the darkness. When Jesus came to the earth He overpowered the evil darkness of the devil and sin as well as death. If you have Jesus through salvation in your heart, you have this light in you and you are not in darkness anymore! You will never be without hope again! “And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.”

‭‭John‬ ‭1‬:‭5‬ ‭NKJV. “That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.” John 1:9 NKJV

‭‭

“He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.”

‭‭John‬ ‭1‬:‭10‬-‭14‬, ‭16‬-‭18‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!” But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.” Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?” And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. For with God nothing will be impossible.” Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.”

‭‭Luke‬ ‭1‬:‭26‬-‭38‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.” When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born. So they said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written by the prophet: ‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, Are not the least among the rulers of Judah; For out of you shall come a Ruler Who will shepherd My people Israel.’ ” Then Herod, when he had secretly called the wise men, determined from them what time the star appeared. And he sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search carefully for the young Child, and when you have found Him, bring back word to me, that I may come and worship Him also.” When they heard the king, they departed; and behold, the star which they had seen in the East went before them, till it came and stood over where the young Child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy. And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Then, being divinely warned in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed for their own country another way.” Matthew 2:1-12 NKJV

‭‭I believe that even the gifts these far off descendants of Abraham gave Jesus had prophetic meaning. It is believed that gold was given because He is a King, frankincence to worship the King and myrrh for His burial.

Everything about Jesus is significant. Every datail of His life as a human has deeper meaning. He is the fulfillment of many old Testament prophesies . He was raised by two very normal human parents but God was His biological father. He was created by the Holy Spirit's power but conceived by a woman. He never sinned but still He was a human who got tired and had to eat just like us. He grew up with parents and brothers and sisters, just like we do. Because of this He understand fully what it is like to be human. His life on earth reveals a lot of our own identity as born again children of God. We can endlessly learn from His life and example, from how He handled different situations.

I hope and pray that all of us will remember this Christmas what the true meaning of this season is.
