With the month of love approaching soon I was thinking about love. As always I like to form all my thoughts and opinions from the Word of God.
Here is a very powerful verse about love : So now faith, hope and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love. (1 Corinthians 13:13) My new Bible resource is based on this verse. Read the whole 1 Corinthians 13. It is so beautiful! It reveals true love and a lot more than that!
Why is Love the greatest of them all? It is because everything God created is based on love and originated from love. Without God's love we are hopeless. And there wont be faith at all if it wasn't for God'd love in the first place. Faith wont work if love is not present.
1 Corinthians 13 paints a picture of the character of God Himself, because God is love. Love started with God and out of God and from God. God doesn't contain love, love is God. Love is whom God is. Think of the most loving person you know. God is far greater in love than that, than any person that ever existed. Most people can't think of God being unlimited loving far greater than they can imagine. But that is who He is. Listen to what this verse is saying: The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing. (Zephaniah 3:17 ESV). The NKJV says it like this: The Lord your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.
Read in Genesis 1 :3,4 Then God said, "Let there be light"; and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good... The whole creation account went like this: God said, let there be.... and God saw that is was good! God said, let there be..... and God saw that it was good! Now change the word God into Love and read it again: Then Love said, "Let there be light; and there was light. And Love saw that the light was good. Read the whole creation account this way and think about how true this is! God is Love. Read 1 Corinthians 13 again: Love is good, Love only created good things. Love is kind, Love does not envy; love does not think evil. Love never fails. And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love. Love is the greatest and love is God.
In Genesis 1: 20-22 God created the sea creatures and the birds. And immediately after creating them God blessed them, saying, "Be fruitful and multiply ... Again in Genesis 1: 24 God created the animals and it was good! In verse 26 God created us humans and in verse 28 again, God blessed them! Everything that was created was created out of God, out of love. God is the source from which all life came from. Love created everything out of love. Everything God does, He did out of love. Love is kind and faithful and good.
The devil on the other hand came to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10). So he stole Adam and Eve's dominion over the earth (Genesis 3). But Love came and gave His life to reconcile humanity back to Himself. He became poor so that we might become rich. See God today as the loving faithful father He is. The more you do, the more you will become like your Father and become what 1 Corinthians 13 describe as true love. It will change every relationship in your life. But this is not possible if you try to do it in your own strength so keep your focus on Jesus. The more you focus on Jesus and not on your own short comings and mistakes, the more you will be changed.
